21 Jan GP Bloggers Corner #3 – Dr Abbie Brooks
Dr Abbie Writes – about my blog:
This is a place for me to share the joys and hardships of trying to juggle life as a mum, a wife and a GP while trying to maintain some ‘me’ time. I will try to show you all the challenges of general practice in the current difficult ‘climate’ while hopefully highlighting how fulfilling a career it can be.
How long have you been blogging for?
I started blogging January 2018, I had done a guest blog for NHS England and really enjoyed the process of writing it.
What do you hope to achieve through your blog?
I haven’t quite got to grips with my ideal audience yet, I think I want to educate the general population about what general practice is and how they can best use it.
Has anything surprised you since you started?
How easy some posts are to write! I can literally sit for an hour and get a whole blog done. Some weeks I don’t write and then I get a few ideas all at once and publish several in quick succession.
How do you publicise your blog? Which channels are the most helpful?
I use social media; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Twitter probably provides the most publicity and comments.
What keeps you going with it?
I keep thinking of new topics and general practice continues to surprise me, so new ideas keep coming!
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to write blog posts that interest me and maybe do more videos for my practice website and social media pages.
Any tips for colleagues who may be thinking about blogging?
Do it! Give it a go.
